民進黨主席暨總統參選人蔡英文於美西時間7日，參訪全球最大網路設備商思科（CISCO）總部，蔡英文對物聯網、智慧城市顯現濃厚興趣。她致辭時強調將把物聯網、智慧城市列為未來施政重點，讓更多年輕人在台灣有創業與發揮的舞台。

蔡英文先聽取思科高層就智慧城市趨勢簡報，思科資深總監Munish Khetrapal表示，當城市數位基礎普及，透過物聯網概念，公部門在教育、醫療、交通、環保等領域大量運用數據分析與整合，將有效節省成本，創造出更多就業機會。估計2020年全球將出現5百億個智慧物件。

思科產品策略經理Jerry Lucas認為，只要有效改善都市基礎設施管理能力，就能成功推動社會環境與經濟發展，例如居民可藉由公開資訊，即時掌握城市水質分析、尋找停車位等。
